HYSTEROSALPINGOGRAPHY (HSG TEST)
HYSTEROSALPINGOGRAPHY (HSG TEST)
At Dr. Bansal’s clinic, we offer Hysterosalpingography (HSG), a specialized diagnostic procedure aimed at assessing the health of the reproductive organs in women experiencing infertility or recurrent miscarriages.
Here’s what you can expect during your HSG test at our clinic:
- Preparation : Before your scheduled appointment, our staff will provide you with detailed instructions on how to prepare for the procedure. This may include information on fasting before the test and what to expect during the examination.
- Welcoming Environment : When you arrive at our clinic, you’ll be greeted by our friendly staff who will ensure you feel comfortable and supported throughout the process. We understand that undergoing fertility testing can be stressful, and we strive to create a welcoming environment for all our patients.
- Consultation : Before the procedure begins, you’ll have the opportunity to meet with Dr. Bansal or one of our experienced healthcare providers. They’ll take the time to discuss your medical history, answer any questions you may have, and address any concerns you may be feeling.
- Procedure Room : The HSG test is typically performed in a radiology suite equipped with X-ray imaging equipment. You’ll be asked to change into a gown and lie down on an examination table.
- Positioning : Your healthcare provider will position you on the examination table, usually with your feet placed in stirrups to allow access to the pelvic area. They’ll also insert a speculum into your vagina to visualize the cervix.
- Catheter Placement : A thin tube called a catheter is gently inserted through the cervix and into the uterine cavity. The catheter allows the contrast dye to be injected directly into the uterus.
- Contrast Injection : Once the catheter is in place, a contrast dye is slowly injected through the catheter into the uterus. The dye helps outline the shape and structure of the uterus and fallopian tubes, making them visible on X-ray images.
- X-ray Imaging : As the contrast dye fills the uterus and fallopian tubes, X-ray images are taken. Your healthcare provider may take images from different angles to obtain a comprehensive view of the reproductive organs.
- Evaluation : Your healthcare provider will carefully examine the X-ray images to assess the structure of the uterus and fallopian tubes. They’ll look for any abnormalities, such as blockages or abnormalities in the shape of the uterine cavity or fallopian tubes.
- Post-Procedure : After the HSG test is complete, the catheter will be removed, and you’ll be able to rest for a short period before going home. You may experience mild cramping or spotting after the procedure, which is normal and usually resolves within a day or two.
Hysterosalpingography is a valuable diagnostic tool that can provide important information about the cause of infertility or recurrent miscarriages in women. It’s generally well-tolerated, but some women may experience discomfort during the procedure. Your healthcare provider will discuss the results of the HSG test with you and recommend any further evaluation or treatment based on the findings.
